Singer/songwriter TheLastletter is here with her first release of the year, "Stay." A 3 track EP marking her debut singing in Shona. The project is a single that comes with the twist of three different versions of the same track.
A rap version features rising Zim hip-hop star Paintafresco and two melodic versions feature ZImbabwean singers Maye.Musoni and Rudoson respectively. "Stay" was produced by renowned CalvinMadeIt, nominee for Best Producer at the 2024 Zim Hip Hop Awards.
The deeply emotional Afro-pop record explores the feeling of love growing distant and cold with one person longing the other to stay and be who they once were when the love was new. TheLastLetter's vocals are as soulful as ever and this makes the lyricism especially poignant.
When I heard the beat I knew I had to sing in Shona and when I opened my mouth 'throwback to the days tichingofara' meaning 'throwback to the days when we were happy' were the first words to come out, because of a romantic situation I had been going through at the time. I just wanted to express my heartbreak and how much I missed how we used to be but I couldn't just say it in a message, I had to say it in song. - TheLastLetter
Accompanying the release are three visualizers on YouTube, each capturing the mood of the song's different versions.
"Stay" is now available across all major streaming platforms.
