The new school lineup features talented songstress Tamy Moyo, the current Mr. Chitungwiza and rap royalty - Voltz JT, alongside one of the best performers in the country this year - Master H.
For the old-school artists, there's going to be "Chidzoka" hitmaker Roki, the king of Zimbabwean RnB Trevor Dongo, award-winning Afro-fusion singer Alexio Kawara, and South African house music legend DJ Cleo.
The DJ lineup for this edition of Girlfest will feature: Rax The DJ, DJ Naida, DJ Iroq & Abisha Palmer.
The women-only, women-organised festival has been running since 2019, as a once-off annual event. Creating a safe space for women to wind down and enjoy good food and good music, with the chance of making new friends. However, the ever-growing demand for more women-only spaces has necessitated the expansion to hosting a second event.
We caught up with the event organizers to talk about the upcoming edition of the festival:
What made you decide to branch out from the single annual event?
Girlfest: Demand. A lot of Girlfesters were begging that we increase the number of times the event takes place. We are sure they’ll soon be asking for us to keep increasing but bi-annually is where we draw the line for the now and the near future.
Why back to the 2000s as the theme?
Girlfest: We always want to try different things with each edition, just to spice things up and give our patrons something to look forward to. In this case, we just thought “Why not go down memory lane?”
What made you go with that particular artist and DJ selection?
Girlfest: The main factor was the theme. We wanted people that relate to the 2000s and just a bit of new school for the younger Girlfesters.
There was an outcry on social media over the artists you had chosen. Did you anticipate this?
Girlfest: Yes, we knew the girls would go crazy but we decided to try anyway. We were stuck between a rock and a hard place - most artists were booked out way in advance for that date, some out of Harare and some out of the country. So we had to go back to the drawing board and decided to add more artists.
Advance tickets for the Girlfest Summer Retro edition are currently on sale online via Clicknpay and Mastreetz, with General Access for $15 and VIP for $30.
