Sha Sha delivers a soul stirring performance on "Ndawana" with Kelvin Momo & Sykes

After an almost 2 year wait, the queen of amapiano, Sha Sha is here with her first official release since her 2022 debut album, I'm Alive. Titled after the Shona word for I've found, "Ndawana" sees the BET award winner collaborating with not only a pioneer of the Amapiano genre in Kelvin Momo but one of the sound's fastest rising talents in Sykes.

While Sha Sha and Momo might both be considered stalwarts of the sound, this is surprisingly their first-ever collaboration. Something the queen of amapiano feels makes the collaboration special. However even though it's their first project together, the multilayered and rich sonic palette they paint together on "Ndawana" sounds like the product of seasoned collaborators.

The track has production that firmly defines it as a private school piano, a sub-genre of amapiano pioneered by Kelvin Momo. Kicked off with a light footed percussion, the song has communication of elements at its core, with shakers, the log drum and a weightless bass conversating in harmony. Sha Sha and Sykes add a layer of soulful vocals, with each singer playing to their strengths, resulting in a near-perfect balance of melody and rhythm.

Sung in Shona (Sha Sha) and Zulu (Sykes), "Ndawana" is a love song that is a message about and for "The One." It speaks to the pain of heartbreak, with the hope that the right one won't bring about such pain.

The single presents a new side to the ever-evolving artistry of Sha Sha. While not releasing music in the past 2 years, the singer has not dropped a step and her vocals are as enchanting as ever. "Ndawana" is a soul-stirring serenade, greater than some of its parts, with Sha Sha's vocals at its heart.

In celebration of  the release, Sha Sha launched a TikTok challenge for the song about finding "The One." Creators and fans can join the challenge using the hashtags Ndawana and The One.
