It's Layered Podcast by Zimbabwean duo

At heart "It’s Layered" is a celebration of friendship. It is a podcast by two Zimbabwean girls living on two different continents and keeping their long-distance friendship of over 20 years thriving. The duo delves deeper into life, love and all things under the sun, including spotlighting Zimbabwean creatives when they can. As their motto says "zvine malayers."

Now in their 8th year, the Australian Podcast Awards champion the people both in front of and behind the microphone, giving creators, producers and platforms the recognition they deserve. The awards aim to shine a light on the very best the world of podcasting has to offer across a wide range of topics and formats. Whether you’re part of a major organization or a solo podcaster going it alone.

We caught up with Amanda Mudege-Fleischer for a short conversation about the podcast and the nomination:

So how does it feel to be nominated for Australia podcast awards?

Amanda: It feels amazing and we are very honoured to be nominated and in the running for Listener’s Choice. Especially in an Australian media space where we are usually underrepresented.

Is this the first nomination for the podcast?

Amanda: This is a first nomination for us, on the back of a special we recorded in person in Melbourne - which was already special considering we are a remotely recorded podcast celebrating a long-distance friendship.

What has kept you guys going over the years?

Amanda: Apart from our friendship, it’s also the intention to chat about things that relate to black women specifically. With all our layers. And anytime we’ve thought of throwing in the towel, it’s the very said women we represent that keep us going.
