Doc Vikela is without a doubt, one of the stalwarts of Zimbabwean comedy. Having quit his job as a sales person in 2009, something he regards as the best decision he ever made in his life, he's been pursuing the craft of comedy for almost 15 years. Along the way he has won the Outstanding Comedian Award at the NAMAs and founded Simuka Comedy, which gave birth to comedy projects like Special Class, Vakuru, and PaTown.
After a career (still going), that can rival most in terms of success and impact in Zimbabwean comedy, the comic feels it's finally time to give the audience his first special. As he sees it, after so many years of working to build the industry its only poetic justice that he ushers his comedic genius to the world.
Just What The Doctor Ordered is going to be "a no holds barred night of unbridled laughter." Doc Vikela says he will not be holding back any punches, and that's saying a lot, because he's already a comic that doesn't seem to fear crossing any lines.
The comedy special is set for Friday the 6th of September at 7 Arts Theatre in Harare. Kicking off at 7 pm. General admission tickets are currently going for $10, with VIP tickets priced at $20 from Petani Kitchen (17 Buckingham Road) in Eastlea and Booties Pharmacy outlets around Harare.
Reflecting on how difficult it has been being a satirist in Zimbabwe's sometimes intolerant environment, the comedian said, "It has been the most challenging, you lose so much yet you cant seem to stop because you feel like you owe it to the the people to speak truth to power."
Doc Vikela added that he owes his consistency over the years to the emerging talent on the comedy scene.

After the 7 Arts Theatre performance, the comedian has hinted that he might take the special on tour across Zimbabwe.
