A few days ago Cindy Munyavi hinted that urban grooves had quietly made its return. It was a statement made in jest but as you well know every joke has a hint of truth in it. While the statement was taken as simply banter from an icon of the genre, the singer's latest single is proving to be the truth to her statement.
"Kadeya Deya" is a trip down memory lane, a heartfelt tribute to the roots of Zimbabwe's urban music. The love song earns its name from the childhood rhyme/game that went "Sarura wako, kadeya deya nendoro chena..." Which was a game about choosing a lover that matched your heart's desire.
The song is equal parts nostalgic and refreshing, as it blends together contemporary sounds of the present with the essence of urban grooves. "Kadeya Deya" has catchy lyrics and an infectious rhythm, with Cindy's smooth and soulful vocals at its core. It is the love song of a hopeless romantic
In a nod to the pioneers of Zimbabwean urban contemporary music, "Kadeya Deya" features a sample from the iconic song "Wangu Ndega" by Fortune Muparutsa, one of the founding fathers of the urban grooves genre.
The track was produced by Xfecta and released with a video directed by Shona Pixels (Trevor Mhariwa).
