Language Legacy Expo launch set for this weekend

Harare, Zimbabwe - Consultus Publishing Services (CPS), in partnership with LitFest Harare, is launching the Language Legacy Expo on Saturday, July 27h at CPS Head Office in Eastlea, Harare.


The launch heralds the beginning of a 10-week expo organized by Consultus Publishing Services (CPS) to honour culture and heritage through literary and visual arts. This expo aims to engage a wide audience, including writers, parents, children, educational institutions, cultural organizations, and artists. It will serve as a platform to promote the reading culture, support writers, and foster community connections around literature and the arts.



The Language Legacy Expo will run from 12 pm to 3 pm every Saturday from July 27th through to September 28th 2024. Activities during the expo include literary workshops, book discussions, book swapping, controlled reading workshops for teachers and parents, live performances and a writing competition for scholars. The expo will also have stalls for creatives and producers to exhibit such materials as books, visual artworks and crafts.


Masimba Madondo, General Manager of CPS, expressed his excitement at the upcoming expo launch. He stated, “The Language Legacy Expo anchors the broader CPS Language Legacy Campaign aimed at promoting language learning in general and indigenous languages in particular, while promoting culture and heritage through literary and visual arts. In line with the new Heritage-based curriculum, we endeavor to play our role in advocating for effective language learning, as well as the preservation and promotion of indigenous languages."


He added, “The expo will feature exhibitions, discussions and performances that celebrate our linguistic and cultural diversity as Zimbabweans, as well as shine a spotlight on our cultural products and heritage.”


LitFest Harare Director, Chirikure Chirikure, also expressed his enthusiasm at seeing such a much-needed initiative come to life. He stated, “We are very excited to partner with CPS in promoting language literacy and cultural heritage preservation through the Language Legacy Expo. This is a necessary platform in supporting the legacy of our indigenous languages and culture for this and generations to come."


The expo will be free to attend for the public, with the exception of the grand finale on September 28th. Exhibition stalls are available for a nominal fee.
