Described by Rolling Stone UK as "a star who could well go on to become an indie hero for a new generation of music fans", Rachel Chinouriri is an artiste on the rise. The indie singer is set to release her debut album, the forthcoming What A Devastating Turn Of Events on the 3rd of May. An album said to feature pitting crunching alt-rock guitars against lighter indie-pop moments.
The singer was recently named on Rolling Stone UK's "The Future of Music" list. Compiled in conjunction with all of Rolling Stone's global partners, the list features 25 "incredibly exciting artists from the UK and Ireland who we believe are going to define music in the near future". Named alongside Chinouriri are the likes of Central Cee, Master Peace, Shygirl and Chy Cartier among others.
What I want is to inspire the other 13-year-old Black girls who are confused about their identity but love rock music. I want them to be like, ‘Oh God, it’s possible. Rachel Chinouriri is an English singer-songwriter of Zimbabwean heritage. After posting numerous songs on SoundCloud, she began releasing music on major streaming platforms in 2018. She released her debut extended play (EP), Mama's Boy, in 2019 to critical acclaim.
One of the songs from the EP, "So My Darling", received attention on TikTok when it became a popular audio to use. Chinouriri was signed to Parlophone, with whom she released her debut mini-album, Four° In Winter, in 2021. She then released her second EP, Better Off Without, in 2022. She is set to release her debut album, What a Devastating Turn of Events, on the 3rd of May 2024.
