The Dodger Dome was filled with high spirits from the battle rap community on the 27th of January 2024 as masses came to witness history with RayKaz (Arguably the current best rapper in Zimbabwe) battling against Donne Jovi (Arguably the current best battle rapper in the country) with the rappers being nicknamed "RayLyt vs Jovi The Block Captain" in imitation of two of the most decorated battle rappers in the world.
After the announcement in late 2023, the event organized by Noble Stylez, one of the most looked up to Zimbabwean rappers, came to life at Moto Republik with a shocking turnout from the fans. The event started at 2pm with some open mic sessions to get people in their spirits for the main event which would commence at 4pm exactly.
The two rappers, RayKaz and Donne Jovi gave the people a show. Pre-battle social media conversation had most people taking Donne's side as he already had a battle rap background while Raykaz most described him as the one with potential but yet to prove himself. The anticipation was that Raykaz would bring mostly schemes and Donne punchlines but the fans were left in shock as both rappers came skill-packed with angles, schemes, rebuttals, Punchlines and witty build-ups. Jovi's stand-out skill was his unorthodox rapping style while Raykaz gave a Daylyt impression as a prop in the last round. Most fans and bloggers called the battle an arguable one which proves how competitive it was.
Masses and the event also saw the support from other industry artists. Begotten Sun, Karizma, Tulk Munny, Kayflow, Soko Matemai, VI The Law showed love to the movement as they came to witness history in the culture. The Zimhiphop Gurus, Begotten Sun and Karizma post-battle went back and forth on X posting how great the battle was and how important the event was for the culture.
Many prayed this would be the first in a continual battle rap league, with most people calling out the Masvingo rapper Axe Poz, arguably the best battle rapper in the country with a solid Catalogue to battle Raykaz. Hints were given by the organizers that this was the first to many to come and the whole community showed it was ready to represent.
