The Signal Wins the "Best Animated Short Film" Award at the 2022 Brooklyn SciFi Film Festival in New York
Zimbabwe's first-ever sci-fi short film The Signal was awarded Best Animated Short Film at the just-ended Brooklyn SciFi Film Festival, in New York out of 185 films that were presented in 8 categories as part of the 2022 festival from October 3rd through the 9th.
All films were available to stream online throughout the event, with select films including "The Signal" appearing at in-person screenings at Stuarts Cinema Cafe and Alamo Drafthouse.
Directed and filmed by Daniel Lasker, The Signal is a 20-minute Ndebele short film with English Subtitles starring Tawanda Denga, Dumie Manyathela, and Natasha Dlamini filmed on location in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe.

The Brooklyn SciFi Film Festival was launched in 2020 and returned this year for the 3rd season to celebrate independent voices in science fiction storytelling with online and in-person screenings from October 3rd through the 9th, 2022. This year's awards were announced by Bfffy the Robot via video uplink to the live event.
