The award-winning hip-hop artist, Phreshy is here with her debut album, Camouflage The Transcend. A 13-track project which she says is a follow-up to her last full release, Dzerudo EP from 2020. The album boasts a multitude of features that include Dough Major, The Ammartian, Natasha Muz, Afrow Zenda, Tshaka, Kanter the Janter, Monzon & Shian, and Dancehall Kedha, Malcom Mufunde and Nigerian Uziboy.
The album was produced by a collaborative effort from Vic Enlisted, Afrow Zenda, Dj States and Ashmanz. It has a little bit for everyone as it explores HipHop, Afrobeats and RnB among other genres. The album also has a songwriting credit for the departed legendary hip-hop scribe, Donald Dodger Marindire. Phreshy described the album as being her story and the title is a representation of her ability to blend in.
Camouflage the Transcend album talks about my story of adaptation to any situation in my life. Like the camouflage, I blend in, be it good and rough times and I soldier on till I pull through.
The album was preceded by two single releases in Ndipe & Tweet it or call. The artist said there are different storylines in each song, with some being extremely personal.
In one of the tracks, Roverei talks about how I grew up in a toxic environment and how gender-based violence affected me. I have never shared this part of my life before and I just felt like the Camo season will be the right time. The song Spakwa Neni is a party track with some Caribbean dancehall vibe, then a switch to RnB for the Ndipe track which I recently dropped visuals for.
