South Africa’s leading premium sneaker and streetwear store Shelflife is collaborating with Nike's Air Jordan brand for the first time, on Shelflife Air Jordan 2 Low. The sneaker is expected to release in December 2022 with a $220 price tag.
Shelflife Air Jordan 2 Low comes in neutral suede material for the upper parts and also exotic leathers in white and bone colours. The shoe's back panel and outsole are draped in milky-translucent with a sprinkle of orange at the tongue, outsole tread, and graphic insoles.
Made in Italy, Air Jordan 2 silhouette was designed for Michael Jordan by Peter Moore and Bruce Kilgore and debuted in 1986. It was the first Jordan shoe without the Nike swoosh featured on the upper, though "Nike" was stitched across the heel counter. MJ only got to wear the Air Jordan II for 18 games in the 1986–87 season due to a broken foot. It was re-released, as the Jordan Retro 2, in 1994, 2004–05, 2008, 2010, 2014–18 with the low version released in 2022.
Shelflife was established in 2006 by Nick Herbert a Cape Town-based entrepreneur and globally renowned graffiti artist who was amongst the pioneers of the sneaker culture in South Africa. Its initial focus was on graffiti and street art and soon expanded to Sneakers and Streetwear with the second brick-and-mortar store opening its doors in 2016 in the heart of Johannesburg.
Shelflife has previously collaborated with Sneaker brands like New Balance and Adidas but this is the first Nike collaboration.
