The CEO of Samanyanga Sounds, Holy Ten, has dropped his latest single, a song titled Pfumo. The track addresses gender based violence and it not only speaks to people presently in such a situation but how families and society approach the subject. The song drops amidst countless headlines about violence between couples, with the story dominating the national discourse having ended in murder suicide.
The song produced by JTzim, was Holy Ten returning to that piano ballad sound that his fans love so much and the instrumental is a near perfect match for his flow. From beginning to end the song has a strong melancholic feel to it and the melody together with the lyrics makes for captivating storytelling. Holy Ten doesn't just talk about physical violence but emotional abuse and he talks about how families often advise the victim of abuse to stick around for the good of the family & avoiding the ridicule of divorce.
I'm feeling that I don't need to wear shades
I'm feeling that I don't need to wear shades
Kuhwandisa black eye
That would just take time
That will just force me to pretend to act fine
To cover your hate crimes
Then pabed time, unouya nepfumo
Unondityora makumbo
Kwandakaberekwa vonditova netsumo
Hanzi pamba panogarirwa vana
Hanzi vanhu vanosizer mvana
The song was released with a video directed by Kingsman Arts and its dark & subdued nature is a perfect mirror of the sadness evoked by the song.
