In December 2020, Netflix named Zimbabwean Billionaire Strive Masiyiwa, founder and chairman of telecom and tech company Econet Group, to its board of directors.
Six months later, the streaming giant just introduced a cheaper mobile subscription plan across the sub-Saharan Africa region priced at $2.99 monthly. After successfully cracking down on password sharing, the streaming giant introduced the mobile plan, alongside the other three Netflix plans: Basic – $3.99, Standard – $7.99 and supports two devices at the same time, and Premium -$9.99.
The $2.99 plan strictly supports smartphones and tablets and allows users to stream at a resolution of up to 480p. Users can still have up to five different profiles on the mobile plan. However, only one stream is allowed on a single device.
