The nominations for the PPC Zimbabwe Music Awards are finally here and we have the full list and analysis for you. The awards are set for February 20 with the venue still yet to be announced. This is their 9th edition and this year the awards are running under the theme "Celebrating Voices". According to organizers they received over 1200 submissions and they are going to feature approximately 30 categories.
The most surprising take from the nominations list is that Zimbabwean music heavyweights Winky D and Jah Prayzah didn't make the cut even after 2020 they had with their respective albums Njema and Hokoyo, along with various singles. Kikkybadass and Ndebele rap queen AWA Khiwe were snubbed in the Best HipHop category which left Kikky asking: "Is hiphop for men only?"
Poptain, Nutty O and Jah Master lead the way with 4 nominations each and they represent a younger generation of artists taking over the music industry. Takura is another surprising omission from the nominations after his EP Star Signs made major waves last year. Also after Gemma Griffiths trailblazing year which so her to win Female Artist of the Year at the ZIBA, she didn't make it to the nominations list. For the Best Producer Award, Oskid is another surprising omission but you know what they can't nominate everyone.
So all that being said, congratulations to all the nominees. Here's the full list of ZIMA nominations:
