The global sneaker market was valued at around $ 58 billion in 2018 and it is forecast to reach a CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) of over 7% from 2019 to 2024 to reach around $ 88 billion by the year 2024, on account of more involvement by the young population in sports & fitness related activities and a growing desire to own branded and high-fashion footwear.
So suffice to say, sneakers are big business. Southern Africa boasts of a rich and ever-growing sneaker culture, with the capital of the trade being South Africa. Netflix recently aired a series called Sneakerheads that instantly got me addicted. The blend of my love for shoes and comedy ignited an instant addiction. I binge-watched the whole season In a single day, I was through every episode but I still wanted more. And guess what? Kim Jayde is here to feed the sneakerhead craving right from Africa. She's launching a new show about fashion, culture, music and above everything else sneakers, sneakers and more sneakers.
To most people, Kim Jayde is an award-winning TV host but to sneakerheads, she boasts of possibly the most epic sneaker collection on the continent. From our research, (Instagram stalking) we've noted the following kicks amongst her collection: Air Jordan 1s lucky green, the Jordan 1 High Royal Toe, off-white Air Jordan 4s, the Jordan 1 Retro High Tie Dye, Yeezy 350s, a pair from the Ambush x Converse collection, Air max Verona's, New balance 850s, the Jordan Retro 1 High Obsidian Unc, Air Jordan 1 Satin, Sketchers One piece anime Collab, Nike Air 720, Air Jordan neon colorway, Stan smiths, Disney x Asics collection, Puma x Buffalo London collection, Hello kitty x Puma collection, Selena Gomez x Puma collection, Puma x Barbie collection...

Kickin' it with Kim Jayde is set to premier this Sunday at 5 pm on her YouTube channel and IG TV and you definitely don't want to miss this one. Guests are set to include the likes of Zaid Osman (Founder of Sneaker Exchange), DBN Gogo, Jason Goliath (South African comedic royalty), @ImsimplyB (On Instagram) a collector based in Miami (Florida, USA), Lucas Raps, Uncle Vinny, Mike Pairs in London (Founder of Pairs UK) and Dj Clark Kent in NYC.
It’s set to be an intriguing, insightful, entertaining and informative digital show that's going worldwide. The first season is set to feature nine episodes with guests from London, Miami, New York and throughout South Africa. And as Greedysouth we're here for your sneakerhead fix. After every Kickin' it with Kim Jayde episode we'll have a breakdown of the show, showcasing the highlights and hopefully directing you to cheaper alternatives in terms of locally available sneaker suppliers. We'll direct you to the best local sources and we'll add a Zimbabwean context to everything.
In the completion of the show as a passion project, Kim occupied the roles of executive producer, director, host, scriptwriter and casting director among others. The project is completely self-funded by Kim Jayde herself and we couldn't be more impressed. The TV host recently reminisced about her first sneaker purchase as a working adult and it was a pair of Air Force 1s. Kim Jayde titled them as her gateway drug into sneakers. And we couldn't agree more, your sneaker journey hasn't fully begun if you don't have a pair of Air Force 1s.
We're so excited for the first episode of Kickin' It with Kim Jayde and we urge fans to follow every episode to tune in every Sunday for a brand new episode because after the Season Finale Kim Jayde will be giving away a brand new pair of Air Jordan 1s Lucky Green sneakers (valued at around R5 000.00) to the winner who subscribes to her YouTube channel and watches every episode.
