Inspired by a scene from The Godfather, Nigel Ruwende set out to perfect the perennially functional workwear staple, the humble apron. As managing director of Saint & Birchley, Ruwende creates handmade aprons for the likes of cafes, restaurants, hair salons and private clients, as well as making one for another one of his inspirations — his uncle Craig Nicholl, who is a carpenter by trade. In this video feature, Jocks&Nerds travels to Ruwende’s atelier to talk about his working practise, the value of handmade products, and the beauty of the apron.
