Alick Macheso’s much-advertised United Kingdom tour is hanging in doubt after its second postponement to the end of September under unclear explanations from organisers and band representatives. Last month band manager William Tsandukwa announced that Macheso was embarking on a five day tour of the UK starting July 29 and this was in direct contrast to Macheso’s assistant manager, Jethro Muchanja’s statements during the same week. Muchanja announced that they were leaving for the UK on August 25.
In a move that is set to disappoint Macheso fans in the UK, the show, according to Tsandukwa, has been pushed forward to September 29. The band manager told Greedysouth that the reason for the postponement was that six Orchestra Mberikwazvo members’ passports were
expiring this month and they needed time to renew them.
However, one of the show’s promoters based in the UK, Silmone Wakabikwa, was quoted in a local daily saying the promoters and Macheso’s band had not agreed on terms and dates and once that had been done, the show would go ahead as scheduled.
