Unknown Union recently announced that Yasiin Bey (FKA Mos Def) has signed on as Creative Director of the clothing brand. Yasiin Bey is a world-renowned artist, intellectual and social activist who, after having traveled the world, has found a home for inspiration, creativity and social movement on the continent of Africa. As Creative Director, Yasiin Bey will help to oversee new design concepts and collaborations for Unknown Union. Yasiin Bey will be joined by one of the foremost authorities on African art, Dr. Barbaro Martinez-Ruiz.

Signaling a new direction for the brand, Unknown Union has debuted The Original Royals Collection, with a limited run now available for sale at the online shop. This unique collection was made from the authentic heritage blankets of the Basotho people. The blankets have a history that dates back over 150 years and forms the basis of a proud living tradition. Manufacturing for this collection will be moved to Lesotho in 2016 and a portion of the proceeds generated by the collection will be donated to Sentebale.org in support of its charitable work in Lesotho.
